Is Social Media

Really Appropriate

for a Sweaty Guy in

a Tool Belt?

That's what your competition is hoping you think.

Social media sounds like something better used by a life coach, wedding planner or marketing consultant. Not a sweaty, dirty, hard working remodeling guy or gal. But, here's a news flash: it isn't about you, it's about your customers. And they get it. They like it. They buy from savvy businesses that employ it effectively. You have an opportunity to become one of those businesses. And, you can do it without removing the tool belt off or taking a shower. Really.

NARI of Greater Chicagoland is very excited to have Paul Deffenbaugh as our May speaker. Just who is Paul?  To start, he is a 20 year veteran of the construction industry. As the former editor-in-chief of Remodeling Magazine and editorial director of Professional Remodeler Magazine, he's had a unique perspective on the remodeling industry. Paul is the principle of Deep Brook Media, a company that specializes in providing contractors with unique resources and electronic marketing expertise designed to grow business.

Mr. Deffenbrough has appeared on shows like CNBC, Wall Street Reports and CBS This Morning. He's also been quoted in major print media such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and countless major metropolitan daily newspapers. During his high-impact presentation, you will discover...

  • The stupid, yet easily avoidable mistake most contractors make using social media that can make prospects run the other way...

  • Which social media tools can put cash in your pocket and which are better left in the dumpster with the rest of the bagged and taped RRP debris...

  • Tricks for controlling your message and your image before it controls you like a run-away circus elephant in a big-top full of prospects...

  • The insider's secret to providing content prospects actually want without having a Pulitzer on your mantel...

  • Simple methods of determining if this "social" stuff really works better than your "proud-as-pie" display ad on the local bowling alley score card...

  • How to make your killer social media marketing program so systemized you can manage it in the time it takes to schedule a rough inspection...

Leads generated from social media can often be closed quicker and at higher profit margins because prospects know something about you. You've built some trust, some credibility, some authority. What do you think that is worth?

So, here's the deal. Seating is limited for this event. Honestly, the fewer contractors that show up, the more powerful and effective the message will be for those sharp enough to attend. As a member of NARIGC, you have first dibs on grabbing a seat. Once they're gone, they're gone. Don't wait and risk becoming a victim of social media ignorance. Make it a commitment today.

Also, come celebrate with us and the EVANS family on the completion of the NARI to the Rescue project on their bathroom and say THANK YOU to those who dedicated countless hours to completing this project.  Meet the family - it's worth the price of admission!

EPA LEAD REQUIREMENTS

All contractors that work on pre-1978 homes and disturb more than 6 square feet of paint interior or 20 square feet of paint exterior or engage in window replacements must be Certified Renovators by April 22, 2010. These include but are not limited to renovators, remodelers, plumbers, painters, electricians, window & door contractors, landlords and some building engineers.  Visithttp://rrprenovatortraining.com/ for lead certification training schedules.

Timeline for Lead Rules Implementation:

December 22, 2008: Switch to "Renovate Right" brochure distribution (instead of "Protect Your Family")
April 22, 2009: "Train the Trainer" courses begin for those who will teach the Lead Certification After April 22, 2009: Persons seeking certification as renovators or dust sampling technicians may take accredited training as soon as they are available.
October 22, 2009: Firms may start applying to the EPA for certification to conduct renovations
April 22, 2010: Renovations in target (pre-1978) housing and child-occupied facilities must be conducted by certified renovation firms, using renovators with accredited training, and following the work practice requirements of the rule.

Visit the EPA's website for general info on the new EPA lead rules; http://epa.gov/lead.

NEW PAMPHLET: Beginning December 22, 2008, the rule will require that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint provide the Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers, and Schools (PDF) (20 pp, 626K) lead hazard information pamphlet  En Espaņol (PDF) (20 pp, 3.2MB) to owners and occupants of target housing and child care facilities and to parents and guardians of children under age six that attend child care facilities built prior to 1978.  The rule will affect paid renovators who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, including:
- Renovation contractors - Maintenance workers in multi-family housing - Painters and other specialty trades. Under the rule, child-occupied facilities are defined as residential, public or commercial buildings where children under age six are present on a regular basis. The requirements apply to renovation, repair or painting activities. The rule does not apply to minor maintenance or repair activities where less than six square feet of lead-based paint is disturbed in a room or where less then 20 square feet of lead-based paint is disturbed on the exterior. Window replacement is not minor maintenance or repair.

Understand that after April 2010, federal law will require you to be certified and to use lead-safe work practices. Read more about EPA's rules and lead-safe work practices in EPA's brochure Contractors - Lead Safety During Renovation (2 pp, 1.5MB). HTML version
