The Best of the Best in the Chicagoland remodeling industry were recently feted at the 2016 Remodeling Excellence Awards. The Remodeling Excellence Awards recognize members of NARI of Greater Chicagoland for various interior and exterior remodeling projects throughout the year. Held at Belvidere Banquets in Elk Grove Village, the Awards celebrated its 10th anniversary recognizing exceptional work in the Chicago area remodeling industry. Winners are selected by an impartial panel of remodeling experts.

“All of the 30 projects submitted mirror our philosophy of ‘remodeling done right’,” said Mimi Altman, Executive Director of NARI of Greater Chicagoland (NARIGC) in Des Plaines. “Our organization is dedicated to enhancing professionalism within the remodeling industry and members agree to uphold our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for sound, ethical business practices,” she added.

An impartial panel of judges, who are considered experts within the industry and associated fields, selected winners based on each entrant's "Before and after" photography and project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, and innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.

Among the event’s major winners was Normandy Remodeling, located in Hinsdale, which garnered the most hardware of the evening: a total of seven different awards, followed by Liv Companies LLC, of Burr Ridge and Don Van Cura Construction Co., Inc. of Chicago.

Don Van Cura Construction of Chicago was honored with a Chicago project in the Residential Interior category from $75,000 $100,000 range. The homeowners felt that their home was dark and gloomy. Don Van Cura Construction replaced the existing dark flooring with a lighter Brazilian Cherry color and created a lighter brighter feel throughout the home by adding lighter book shelves, updated fixtures, lighter cabinetry and built-ins. The goal was to renovate the entire interior with a minimal budget.

Liv Construction LLC of Burr Ridge won the $250,000-plus category with a residential addition in Riverside. The fixer-upper was purchased by a young family moving from the city wanting to update and expand the home. Liv created an open and livable plan on the narrow site while engaging the natural landscape. The solution was a linear addition creating side yard and backyard outdoor spaces accessible by a 12-foot folding glass door. Additional details included numerous transom windows for treetop views, built-in cabinet storage, and vaulted master bedroom ceilings.

All projects submitted for judging are required to be an improvement or an addition to an existing structure in order to be considered. In addition, competing projects must have been completed between July 1 of the previous year and September 25 of the current year (a 14-month time period) and cannot have been submitted in prior NARI of Greater Chicagoland contests.
